RENATO D’AIELLO

Thursday 11th April

Renato D’Aiello has become known as one of the strongest and most original saxophone sounds around. His treatments of jazz standards, and originals, both live and on cd, have won great admiration from audiences and the press. Renato studied with masters such as Sal Nistico, Tony Scott, Steve Grossman and Joe Henderson. He has played with great jazzmen like: Art Farmer, Sal Nistico, Steve Grossman, Eddie Duran, Kirk Lightsey, Keith Copeland, Duffy Jackson, Tony Scott, Jim Mullen, Bruce Forman, Gene Calderazzo, Phil Lee, G.Husband., and Alain Jean Marie

 

MARCUS PENROSE

Saturday 13th April

As a jazz double bassist Marcus has played in countless different line-ups and in venues of all sizes and varieties in London, the UK and Europe, from the world-famous Vortex Jazz Club to Glastonbury Festival. Between 2004 and 2009 he was resident bassist at Notting Hill Brasserie and The Ebury in Belgravia where he performed regularly with, among others, Ivo Neame, Asaf Sirkis, Dylan Howe, Kit Downes, Jeff Williams, Shane Forbes, Bill Bruford and John Escreet. In 2010 he appeared on pianist Will Butterworth’s trio album ‘Hearafter’ with Peter Ibbetson on drums. Following on from this he worked with Will and saxophonist Seb Pipe in the collaborative trio ‘Tournesol’. The trio produced and released a self-titled album and toured the UK in 2012 to positive reviews. Between 2011 and 2014 Marcus was a founder and active member of The SE Collective, a group of South London based musicians, promoting regular successful jazz nights showcasing some of of the UK’s most cutting edge jazz and improvised music groups. They also formed various bands including MAP Trio (Marcus, Alam Nathoo on saxophone and Peter Ibbetson on drums) and released an album in 2012. Marcus is currently concentrating on promoting and composing for his trio, Aurelius, featuring Will Butterworth on piano and Marco Quarantotto on drums.

 

Deborah Carew

Thursday 18th April

London-based vocalist started her vocal journey training at WAC Arts and Media College. Then completed a degree at Middlesex University – BA Honours in Jazz Performance in 2010. Which then led on to form her first quintet (featuring Henry Gilbert, Al Scott, Ed Riches, and Chris Packham) where she had a monthly residency at Charlie Wrights Jazz Bar in Hoxton, London.

Other venues with her quartet have been Mau Mau bar (Jazz re:freshed), the Pheasantry, Chelsea, Pizza Express Live, Soho. With her swing trio (featuring Harry Diplock (London Django Collective) and Marcus Penrose (Aurelius)), regularly at the Green Note in Camden, and in general at functions and events around the UK and Europe.

 

John Crawford

Saturday 20th April

IMA nominated musician John Crawford was born in London of English/Spanish Parents. His father played Blues piano, and this is the first thing he learnt to play. His mother would introduce him to Latin music of all kinds, and he has gone on to perform at Montreal Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, Getxo Jazz Festival, Ronnie Scotts, Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, the 606 club, and Royal Albert Hall amongst others. His 2012 release "Ulia River of Time" has been nominated in the USA by the Independent Music Awards for best album in the Jazz category.

As a jazz pianist he has performed with many jazz artists such as Tony Coe, Tina May, Ola Onabule, Norma Winstone, Alec Dankworth,  Duncan Lamont, Pinise Saul, Lucky Ranku , Ramesh Shotham,  Sax Appeal, Julie Dexter, Chris Batchelor, Sandy Cressman, Lily Dior, Polly Gibbons, Jason Yarde, John Etheridge, Dave Pike, Harvie S, Dave O'Higgins, Tony Kofi, Billy Bang, Noel Mccalla, Roger Beaujolais, Tommaso Starace, Shirley Smart, Gilad Atzmon, Paul Jayasinha's Shanti Jazz World , Victoria Newton, Clement Regert, Adam Glasser, Christian Brewer, Rowland Sutherland, Byron Wallen, Sarah Moule, Shireen Francis, Trudy Kerr, Annie Whitehead, Katriona Taylor, Parry Ray, Daniela Clynes, Esther Bennett, Linley Weir, Zena James, Michele Drees, Eleonora Claps, Anjali Perrin, Orla Murphy, Rosanna Brandi, and Lydia Garrow.

 

Mared Williams

Thursday 25th April

Mared is a Welsh singer-songwriter and actor sharing her time between Llannefydd and London. Her debut, bilingual pop/folk album, ‘Y Drefn’, was released with I KA Ching Records in 2020, and awarded Welsh Album of the Year 2021, which included live sessions of Mared performing her originals with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. The album is a collection of nostalgic and heartfelt songs, written over the course of 7 years, packed with coming of age narrative. Since the album release, Mared returned to the West End Cast of Les Miserables in London as Eponine understudy until September 2022, and has been performing across the country with lockdown-formed musical theatre group ‘Welsh of the West End.’ Mared kickstarted a self-released, soul-pop EP project, co-written and produced by Nate Williams at the end of November 2021 and is currently writing more originals inspired by this collaboration.
